Topic: The Role of Networking in Intelligent Transportation Systems and Services
Abstract:
Almost twenty years ago, to connect Slovenia with the pan-European transport network, the Slovenian ITS Association - ITS Slovenia was established. Since then, it has actively contributed to the development and implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems and Services (ITS) in Slovenia and the European Union as the non-profit professional organisation. Today, ITS Slovenia unites sixteen legal entities and over fifty individual members, supported by the Electrotechnical Association of Slovenia as a technical society. As an active member of Network of National ITS Associations - ITS Nationals, it collaborates with similar organizations across Europe. The Ministry of Infrastructure serves as the national authority for ITS, linking ministries, municipalities, and private stakeholders. This paper presents the role and purpose of ITS Slovenia within the national and European ITS community, outlines its key achievements, and looks ahead to future developments. In Europe, the future of ITS will focus on interoperability, harmonised standards, and seamless cross-border data and service integration.
